Love’s Rationale

Beth Blog 0 0

I was being very rational. The wind was creating snowclones and dervishes. Any seed I put out would be quickly covered in snow. Earlier I thought I might have seen the hawk. The temperature had only reached 10 degrees. To put seed out now surely would not be rational or wise. I was waiting for what the mind perceived as the most opportune time. And then….. in front of the window where I sit, the smaller of the birds that come to feed appeared. A Holy Hock stalk holding fast in the snow was all he could find.

With the first thrust of the shovel into the snow quilted yard, the unseen pigeons now appeared. A quick circle above me and then they began to dance at my feet. I laughed as they fluttered with each shovel of snow. Laughed even harder when the wind blew it back. They chortled and fluttered around me as I began to throw the seed in what could only, in the most kind way, be called a cleared area. The ravens arrived to join. Gently I made my way out of the buffet area. As I started to enter the house,  I noticed all the small birds in the snow covered tree. Another pail of seed and shoveling in a different area near the tree. I did tell the ravens and pigeons this was small bird dining only. They agreed.

A silly little story. Not exactly an earth shaking scrich. But it made me smile. It made my heart sigh. Love’s rationale sometimes doesn’t make sense. But, then again, maybe that’s why the Golden Rule is so hard to keep. Alas, that is another scrich (smile). For now, tis but a simple story and silly scrich written with love.
