Every coin has two faces. Zen and Buddhism teach that sorrow is in joy and joy is in sorrow. What is joy in this moment holds the sorrow of the next moment. Two faces. One coin.
Upon a drought hardened earth a bountiful gift of abundant rain has two faces. One face sings joyfully like a child the old gospel song “Showers of Blessings.” The other face sees the abundance as a torrent. The hardened earth unable to hold the abundance and an old roof that is unable to shield. And like the edge of the coin where the two faces meet, a reminder that when times seem so hardened in drought and impatience is equally abundant, perhaps a slow soaking is best.
The rain and dripping have stopped. The earth and air feel so different. With one face I bow and give thanks to and for the gift. The face and heart of now.
Every need brings in what’s needed. Pain bears its cure like a child. ” — Rumi
