I watched as a Mourning dove supervised the two young ones. Gusting winds scared her and she flew away. The young ones stood there looking confused and uncertain whether to follow. Suddenly my heart leaped to see a large bird come swooping in towards the young ones. I feared the worse, having seen that scene before. But no, it was a large band-tailed pigeon, not too common and they usually remain in the trees. He stood there keeping a watchful eye it seemed. I could hear the coo of a dove and wondered if it was the mother. The band-tailed pigeon fluttered his large wings scaring the young ones and the three flew to the nearby tree. I guess he delivered the little ones back to their parent.
No wise words to be added. Was just a moment of gentleness and wonder transcending all but the heart.
