A news report referred to the full moon tonight as a micro full moon. The name refers to its smaller size compared to a super moon. It is at its furthest point from the earth. Smile, at first my scrich would have been how can anyone call the moon “micro”? Then when the image appeared on my computer, I actually ran to get my magnifying glass. The image already large on the monitor for me to see, but something said to look closer…and I did. The image then sent me scurrying to see if what my mind, eyes, and heart saw was in fact what I saw.
I found an image taken June of 2013 (the yellow moon). Yes, there it was. The moon was at a different angle. You too may have to enlarge to see, but look at the patterns and especially the little “navel” where the lines spread out. In July at the bottom, tonight on the side. No change in orientation from the camera. The moon showing a tilted side.
My heart sighed. I guess the scrich is about how anyone can call the moon micro. So vigilant and watchful, and never disdaining that the earth’s rotation hides part of her light at times. Tonight, she showed even more mystery and playfulness. Such a simple thing. Perhaps that is the scrich. Look closer little one. Look closer especially when your mind would think it simple and common. And with that, I end a silly little scrich as I return outside to say “as always, thank you.”
