Yesterday an invitation of awe. Today, oh today, a reminder to not “move the way fear makes you move. Move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move” ~ Osho.
Rick Hanson notes that our brains are stuck in a “negativity bias.” To survive we must remember negative experiences. Don’t touch the hot stove. Don’t step out in front of traffic. We are like “Velcro” when it comes to negative experiences but Teflon when it comes to positive experiences. We cling to all the bad and quickly forget the joy, the awe, the multitude of miracles.
Oh sweet hands of life, I know my mind is aging and forgets so much. I know the negative sometimes is like Velcro in my mind. But please, oh please, let me not forget the joy nature reminds me to cling to and move with. A hawk who rumpled himself and seemed to laugh. A two headed goose. And a precious raven holding a wad of mud in his beak. He even posed right to left as I took pictures. His coal black eyes laughing and scraping away the Teflon.
May I forever make joy intentional.
