A morning’s tale of two images that still stir a sighing within my heart. John O’Donohue talks of how we are the mirror of nature. We are the earth’s reflection by which she gets to see and experience her beauty. I gazed in wonder as the bird appeared to stare at his own image in the placid lake. I thought, yes we are the earth’s reflection and gift to her the experience of her beauty. But sometimes, the earth graces our presence by reflecting back our own true earthen beauty. I pondered the circle of grace and the giving and receiving. To watch the lake, the element of water, gift to the bird, the symbol of air, its own reflection I pondered how the earth would see me this morning.
Lifting my eyes I thought surely my heart and breath stopped as the second image appeared. The camera became my eyes and lens of awe. There before me, just a ways from the reflected image was yet another reflection. A deer who leaps effortlessly through the air, but is earthen bound, had become a migrating goose. …And the whisper laughed.
