The acorn in his mouth, he prepared his hiding place. Fervent paws diligently moved stones and fir shavings over the hole. Mission accomplished! The treasure has been duly saved and retrievable during the winter months.
A quick search of the Google oracle, produced a nut of its own. Squirrels do find the buried nuts! Alas, not all of them and not if there is a layer of snow. There is also a difference between gray and red squirrels. Gray squirrels, like my friend here, bury their stash slightly beneath the soil. Red squirrels prefer to build mounds. And in that difference comes a much different outcome. The gray squirrels will find more of their nuts. More importantly, those they do not find germinate and become trees – yea! The mounds left by red squirrels are often lost and do not germinate. Both squirrels and forest lose out.
What kind of segue does the Whisper make with this image and oracle? Giggle, over the years I have fervently buried, or put on hold, dreams, things I wish I could say or be. Storing them, I guess, for a winter’s day when their gifts would be needed. Some have been retrieved. Others, well, not so much. But is there a loss? “Look to the forest little one. Perhaps you missed the germination.”
With that I chuckle and scrich my fingers against my heart. Just planting acorns. I got this….
