No, I did not photoshop the eyes on to the little one. Nature’s grand design did that. Isn’t it cool!? Science fiction creators could not have created such a design. Well, maybe a little child learning to draw. But they have served a purpose to protect this little one and I stand in awe.
The docent at the butterfly house extolled on its short life span leading up to its cocoon and even briefer time span after it emerges. It is a caterpillar. It is also a butterfly. You just can’t see the butterfly yet. A predator may leave the little one in peace seeing such eyes staring back. Sometimes the eyes can be deceiving in both what we see and what others see looking at us.
May my eyes be equally fierce in protecting who I am. May my eyes gift laughter. And yes, looking at the little tongue….may I taste the wonders of life without a thought of its span.
