The first bare feet of the year and the sun’s warmed earth softly greeted. I thought of so many reasons why the bare foot walk may not have been wise….soft feet stepping upon pebbles or perhaps the tumble weeds’ prickly thorns strewn across the path. And then I laughed. Yesterday I danced and sang with a grove of trees, I’ve had lunch with the mountains and lake, celebrated the first rain and birds bathing. Oh, how easy it is to slip into the world of should not, cannot, this and that. Picasso said “It takes a very long time to become young.” Without the adult voice of my conditioned mind, would the child in me have given the celebration of bare feet and earth a second thought? There are some warmths that are simply beyond words. They require the language of a child’s heart.
