The image looks like the moon sitting upon the water. It is the New Year’s Eve moon, merging her illumination with the afternoon’s final sun of 2014 and playful wispy clouds. The moon sitting upon the ocean she rocks back and forth day after day. A wondrous image to say good-bye and hello. Two quotes whispered as the image made me sigh. The Tao says “Growth comes with a shock.” Emily Dickinson wrote, “Not knowing when the dawn will come I open every door.” Opening doors, like growth, often bring shocks.
An afternoon moon. A moon sitting upon the ocean. A moon who knows not calendars yet celebrated as the last of a year. A moon that will hold New Year’s Eve’s hopes, resolutions, lover’s kisses, and dreams of change. A moon’s image that appears to be what it is not. Growth comes with a shock. Open every door for we know not how long we have to knock. Perhaps her image reminds us that we do not have to look up or outside ourselves. This New Year’s Eve, the moon sits with us, eye to eye. “Oh little one, if I can sit upon the ocean so can you. Come, little one, open the door, be prepared for a shock, and rise with me.”
A bountiful New Year to each. May all hearts rise with Love, peace, and humanity. May every day be an eve.
