An unplanned day off. An unplanned return of the sun shining forth in 2 degree temps and wind. The sun said “I’ll keep you warm” and off to shovel a very long and wide driveway and sidewalks. A balmy 6 when I finished. I laughed to feel my warm body sweating. I laughed as the pigeons and squirrels urged me on knowing breakfast seed would follow. Warm dry clothes replaced the snow covered and damp clothes.
An unplanned visit by my handy man who laughs to call me his hobbit. He wanted to make sure all was fine and to check two windows. Windows by name as they were glass doors for the polar air to stream through. Measurements taken as we stood outside and off he went to see what good prices he could find.
An unplanned sight standing by the picture window. My elderly neighbor was on her front porch area with a snow shovel. I shouted to myself “Busted!” as I laughed and donned coat, hat, boots and scurried out the door grabbing my snow shovel. She said she could do it and I agreed. And assigned her “could do” to a safe small flat area by the door. I smiled as I shoveled to see her scoop a bit and toss. My heart exploded when I heard her laugh. We celebrated a cleared driveway, sidewalk to keep the post office lady safe, and porch. Her nose and cheeks red, I sent her inside and finished the back patio area. An unplanned Pinion Jay sang as I walked back to the house. A squirrel curled up in the naked tree giggled.
An unplanned trip to the store so I could have hot apple cider. Sounded good even though we had now warmed to 10 degrees. I stood in a very long line which was even longer behind me. One cashier. Another register opened and the woman behind me tried to get me to move since I had been waiting. I laughed and said no problem, I would get out of the store when I got out. She grabbed my arm and laughed and said “I thought it was peaceful standing here.”
An unplanned day filled with such moments of exquisite planning. And if I might, instead of hearing a whisper tonight, I would offer to the Whisperer, as whisper…..thank you.
