Without warning or understanding, the events in Oregon for some reason grabbed and unnerved my heart immediately upon waking this morning. I do not understand what is happening. I do not understand the response. If any other group dared to attempt such actions their actions would be met with swift resistance. I thought of the fragility of my precious wildlife sanctuary here and thought of the actions there. This week my grace will be to sit with severely traumatized individuals from children to adults. The world has denied them a sense of safety. No one responded. Their lives bear witness to the human heart wondering what happened as it tries to adapt and survive.
Right now I sit with another Divine’s traumatized child. She may have four legs and fur but the effect of others’ actions is still the same. I don’t understand Oregon. I don’t understand abuse and neglect. I do understand the power of the heart finding its stillness. I do understand the power of not demanding love or respect. I do understand the power of compassion. I do understand, that of all the “God given” rights so many voice, the most fundamental one is unconditional love. And so I sit with this precious little one and accept with grace her touch. I ask nothing more.
Maybe one day, the words of Jimi Hendrix, and others, will be the norm for all. “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”
